  Tarik Skubal is clearly the prize of this trade deadline. The Detroit Tigers, at 30 and 43, still have not made the decision to trade him, but he is an impending free agent. And the likelihood — unless they go on a big run here — is that he moves before August 3rd. The Dodgers are going to be in. The Yankees are going to be in. The Milwaukee Brewers, the Atlanta Braves, and every single team that believes it can win a World Series will be in on Tarik Skubal.

  Jeremy Peña is a little bit of a different case — he's a free agent after next season. And the Houston Astros, in the past, when they've been contending, have held on to their players — whether it's George Springer, Carlos Correa or Alex Bregman. They took a little different tack with Kyle Tucker, trading him in the offseason before he was supposed to be a free agent. The Astros aren't very good right now, so if they want to maximize the return on Jeremy Peña, now might be the time to move him. The only issue is, there aren't a lot of teams in contention right now that need shortstops. But you look at Atlanta — they've had a hole there all season long. He would be a perfect fit for them.
