I hope they do. The Yankees desperately need offense and I miss having a Japanese superstar. They went from having 3 at the same time in Ichiro/Kuroda/Tanaka to not having any.

フィリーズは山本に一番高い額を出していたし、メッツも山本からの折り返しを待っていたと言われる。結局、山本はドジャースかヤンキースしか考えていなくて、ヤンキースが消えた時点でドジャースに決まった。今回のドジャース有利説の根拠は、大谷と佐藤の関係だと思う。WBCでかなり距離が近そうだったし、ドジャースは当然それなりの金額を出す。山本のときのドジャース対ヤンキースの再現になるんじゃないか。
The Phillies offered Yamamoto the most and the idea is that the Mets were waiting for another call from Yamamoto. Yamamoto most likely only wanted to sign with the Dodgers or Yankees so once the Yankees were out, he went to the Dodgers. The reason why I say this signing specifically looks good for the Dodgers is Ohtani and Sato's relationship. They seemed pretty close during the WBC and Dodgers will obviously give a competitive enough offer. One of the other teams will have to really spend to get him over the Dodgers. It will be like the Dodgers and Yankees for Yamamoto all over again.

上回る可能性はある。ただ、あの2人（村上・岡本）だって長期の大型契約を結んだわけじゃない。佐藤も“実力を証明してみせろ”型の短期契約しか提示されない可能性はある。
It may surpass them but also remember those 2 didn’t exactly sign big long terms deals. Sato may also only get “prove it” deals from teams.

名前が挙がってる球団の顔ぶれを見てみろよ。おそらく鈴木誠也より高く、しかも長い契約になる。岡本や村上とはまったく状況が違う。
Just look at the teams in on him. He is probably going to get paid more than Seiya on a longer contract. It's a very different situation from Okamoto and Murakami.

飛距離だけの話じゃない、選球眼だよ。ムネの球を見る目はほぼエリート級で、あの能力は歳を取っても落ちにくい。佐藤はバットに当てる技術に依存しすぎていて、MLBだとアンディ・パヘス型になる気がする。悪い結末ではないがスーパースターではないし、加齢に強いタイプでもない。
It’s not just the moonshots, it’s the batters eye. Mune’s eye for the ball is borderline elite and that tool tends to age well. Sato is so reliant on bat to ball skills that he strikes me as an Andy Pages type in MLB, which isn’t a bad outcome but isn’t a superstar and may not age well.

今年の佐藤は絶好調で、本気で三冠王を獲りそうな勢いだ。しかも今の“デッドボール時代”みたいな日本球界で、OPS1.000超えは彼ひとり。選球眼が悪い選手にこんな数字は出せない。
He’s on fire this year and looks like he might actually win the Triple Crown. Plus, he’s the only player in Japanese pro baseball this season who’s currently rocking an OPS over 1.000 from the Dead Ball Era. You don't put up numbers like that if you have bad plate discipline.

Yeah, that was four years ago when Murakami won the Triple Crown, right? But starting the very next year, his batting average plummeted and he really struggled to find his rhythm. The main reason he couldn't score a huge MLB contract was definitely that drop-off in his stats back in Japan. Plus, Murakami and Okamoto's home stadiums are way easier to hit home runs in compared to Koshien, where Teruaki Sato plays. Taking the home run title as a lefty at Koshien is seriously impressive—that ocean wind blowing in is no joke.

キャリア全体で見る意味はない。いつ、なぜ良くなったかが特定できるならな。佐藤はドライブラインに行ってから劇的に伸びた。記憶違いかもしれないが、近藤・森下・佐藤はみんな行ってるはずだ。全員が成功するわけじゃないが、ハマった選手はそこから別人になる。
It's not relevant to look at his whole career if we can pinpoint when and why he got better. Sato went to driveline and saw massive improvements ever since. I could be mistaking him for someone else but I believe Kondoh, Morashita, and Sato have all been there along with a lot of pitchers. Not everyone that goes has success but if they do, it's basically a different player from that point.
